![]() The H6 is capable of recording 6 channels at once: 4 XLR inputs and 2 more from the onboard microphones. Mid-Budget Field Audio Recorders ($300+) For skeleton indie crews, it’s size and ability to rig this to camera is a winnerĪ slight cash injection will offer more options and flexibility at the $300 price point. Includes two XLR/TRS connectors, a 3.5mm input, 3.5mm camera input, and flexible monitoring options designed for indie filmmakers. Another option from Tascam with a box-like form-factor designed be mounted beneath a DSLR camera. The DR-40x arrives with two onboard microphones and two XLR/TRS input jacks, allowing 4 channels of audio to be captured. This is also a great on-the-go choice for recording sound effects! The combined XLR/TRS input allows flexible connectivity, as does the modular microphone-mounting ability. This compact portable recorder can capture 4 channels of audio. In all other cases, indie filmmakers can begin exploring options under $300. Let’s hope you’ll not encounter a disaster necessary to use a backup recorder. Low-Budget Field Audio Recorders (Under $300) The DR60d MKii is built for on-the-go videographers tackling their own sound Want other economical options? Last resort backups can include Rode’s i-XY ($159) or Shure’s MOTIV ($149) mobile phone systems. For all other situations, inexpensive portable recorders such as the Zoom H4n Pro ($229) with onboard microphones will capture audio when all else fails. Pro kits will have backup audio recorders that outshine an indie filmmaker’s main kit. I’ve heard of absolutely catastrophic situations where a director is thrilled that sound crew can capture dialogue on a mobile phone. Just the same, many sound mixers pack a backup recorder in case of emergencies. Of course, these situations will be rare if you are well prepared. Emergency Audio Recorders The Zoom H5 is a great audio recorder to keep in your bag along with a shotgun mic capsule and XLR input expansion moduleĭid your main recorder run out of power? No backup batteries? Perhaps someone carelessly knocked your recorder to the ground, smashing it to pieces. Let’s look at options for recording sound on a budget. Of course, the sky’s the limit if your bank account is flush. Digital Audio Recorders for Indie Filmmakers Now that we have our list of essential features, let’s see what our options are. The features above can be considered basic requirements for capturing decent sound on set. ![]() Of course, audio recorders have dozens of other options. Allow the recorder to spool to a second storage medium after the first fills. Power redundancy switches to a second power source after the first expires. It may be a challenge powering audio equipment for the long days on set. Creates a tone on the recorder at a standard specification to ensure post-production pros are monitoring levels to match what was recorded on set. It allows the production sound mixer to dictate info to the track even if the microphones are being used far away. This is a small, low-quality microphone built into the recorder itself. While many low-budget cameras will not have timecode sync options either, this may not be a necessity. Some offer time-stamping the starting timecode into a BWAV file. Budget recorders lack timecode, others are able to read timecode but not generate it, and higher-end recorders generate timecode themselves. Timecode is a way of synchronizing multiple cameras and audio recorders. Capture multiple microphones simultaneously on discrete channels. If you’re using boom and lav microphones, you’ll want at least 3-4 inputs. Allows professional microphone connections. Ensure an audio recorder can capture at least 48 kHz audio in the uncompressed BWAV or WAV format. What are the absolute deal breakers when choosing audio recorders to record for film and video? Let’s learn: That means indie production sound mixers must make careful choices. That’s rarely the case when working on indie films. Like any other pro sound gear, choices are endless with an unlimited credit card limit. Audio Recorder Must-Have Features Sound Devices is the name to beat in terms of both build and sound quality. Today’s post explores the best indie film audio recorders for under $1,000. The next step? Amplify your indie film sound quality with a dedicated audio recorder. We explored shotgun and lav microphone options under $1,000 in the last post. The first step is to upgrade to better microphones. Recording audio direct-to-camera isn’t going to cut it any longer. You must accommodate for distant talent and prolonged Steadicam takes. This time, you’ll need better, cleaner sound. It has a bigger budget with more cash for the sound department. For months you’ve been shooting video using your camera’s onboard microphone.

![]() The combination of Tuscan kale, freekeh, and Fresno Chili flavoring created a potent and delicious flavor, and I’d rank it as some of the best seafood in River North that I’ve had. The bass was sweet, without being too crumbly to pick up, and I was hooked after the first bite (no pun intended). Pressing my knife and fork to the bass, I was pleased at how tender it was. ![]() The bass looked delicious right from the start and had a few simple garnishes to put the finishing touches on the display. The presentation was beautiful with this dish and others I noticed at tables nearby. I usually like a few minutes to digest and think about my food, but I appreciated not being in the middle of a big bite when the main dish showed up. I had just finished the Ahi Tuna Crudo Chili when the sea bass came out. Personally, I like having enough time to focus on enjoying the appetizer before getting to the main dish. Some people like getting their main dish as soon as possible, while others want a break between their appetizer. One thing that many restaurants don't get right is timing the arrival of the appetizer and main dish. ![]() Ahi tuna is hard to screw up, but regardless I enjoyed their unique take on it. It was served hot, tender, and fresh, and the different Chili flavors complimented each other, without overpowering the taste of the sushi. When the tuna did show up, I was impressed. My drink was so good I had to fight finishing one off before the Ahi Tuna Crudo showed up. All I can say about this drink was wow! The blueberry and basil flavors were perfectly blended and deliciously refreshing. Alternatively, if you’re looking for fun restaurants in River North Beatrix is the place for you.Ī short two-minute wait later and my water and blueberry smash drinks were at the table. They exclusively play pop music, which contributes to the hip downtown vibe, but those looking for a nice quiet place to eat may want to consider other options. The crowd was diverse with people on dates and large families to college kids and young professionals throughout. While I waited for my food I was surprised at how busy the place was in the early afternoon. The pan-roasted Chilean sea bass looked promising (and also included some Chili!), so I made an order for that as well. I love Chili flavorings and figured a seven-flavor combination could be intriguing. For an appetizer, I ordered the seven flavor Ahi Tuna Crudo Chili and chose a blueberry and basil smash as a beverage (they have a ton of fresh-squeezed juice drinks). While Beatrix Chicago is mostly known as a brunch place with the busy downtown Chicago scene, I was there to try out its dinner options. Does Beatrix have what it takes to execute on the promise of such an eclectic approach? Or did they let me down by being the jack of all trades but masters of none? Their slogan is “taste over trend,” though, so it appears they are trying to bring back the “all or nothing” approach of past restaurants. This little selection size helps cut down on food costs and creates a restaurant and menu identity that is easier for the average consumer to grasp at first glance.īeatrix went against all recent restaurant trends by offering, frankly, one of the most diverse menus I've seen in a Chicago restaurant. One of the first rules of restaurant ownership, which has been hammered into our heads for years, is that a restaurant should have a small and focused menu. My first thought here was that Beatrix had likely bitten off more than they could chew. On another part of the menu I saw you could order sushi! What was this madness?! Photo by Youjeen Cho / Unsplash But then I saw a fish dish that promised a “Mexican flavor” and a staggering array of salads that seemed too good to be true. My eye fell on “hummus with naan” as an appetizer, which sounded pretty delicious. When sitting down, the first thing I noticed right away was that the menu was rather wild. One thing I did appreciate was the natural light, which balanced out the rather low-lit atmosphere quite nicely. I was just glad they weren't gaudy or excessive. I'm sure some people will love the decorations, but I was more or less indifferent to them. It was clear that Beatrix aims to appeal to the younger River North demographic, but it does so without alienating diners from other areas of the city. Among mostly subtle interior design there was a rather large photo of Mick Jagger, and some other photos of pop culture icons scattered around the seating area. ![]() The decor was modern and sleek, fitting for a downtown Chicago restaurant. It has a relatively simple interior design, including concrete floors and large wooden beams, and when I first visited Beatrix, I was surprised at how low-key it all looked. Created by Lettuce Chairman Rich Melman, it was designed to highlight foods and recipes that other restaurants wouldn't dare touch. Beatrix is fast becoming one of Chicago's hottest restaurants. for 4.1.15 Rosetta Stone v4.5.5 Plus (Espaol) Language Packs Audio Companion. Rosetta Stone TOTALe 4.1.15 (WIN) (245 Mb) Download. This is a kingdom that existed in 1200–546 BCE in modern-day Turkey. However, the oldest known coin is the Lydian Lion which is from the ancient Kingdom of Lydia. They became widespread in Ancient Greece whose complex civilization included coin-based trade and marketplaces. CoinsĬoins provide evidence of commerce and trade in ancient civilizations. Looking at them today, it’s remarkable just how small the Ancient Egyptians were. Their sarcophagi (the earliest of which are dated to around 2685 BCE) were made of elaborate stone and contained beautiful carvings and writing on them. The Ancient Egyptians do, however, hold the crown for the most elaborate coffins. It is believed to belong to a 4-year-old girl. The oldest known wooden coffin dates back to about 5000 BCE from the Beishouling relic site in Shaanxi, China. While the Ancient Egyptians are well-known for their sarcophagi, coffins were actually identified first in China. The chest had a treasure trove of objects inside including keys, padlocks, hammers, chisels, knives, saw blades, and clamps. This is one of the exciting situations where an artifact was found by a layperson and not during an excavation. It was found in 1936 by a farmer who was tending to an area of field that was formerly a lake. The chest is a Viking age object dated somewhere between 7 CE. The oldest known chest is the Mästermyr chest, found in Gotland, an island of Sweeden. The stone has the same text written in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, Demotic script, and Greek script, allowing archaeologists to reverse-engineer hieroglyphics by comparing it to the Demotic and Greek scripts. The text is famous because it helped provide the code for deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics. The rosetta stone is another famous text which was produced during the Hellenic period (about 196BC). The Book of Two Ways is believed to be at least 40 years older than any other written text. It was a set of texts found etched on the inside of a sarcophagus (Egyptian stone coffin).
